Licinia (Cato the Elder)
Licinia († around 155 BC) had been from around 192 BC. The first wife of the Roman politician Marcus Porcius Catos the Elder . Her name is derived from the cognomen of her son, Marcus Porcius Cato Licinianus , whom she gave birth to to her husband.
Licinia was of noble descent and Cato the Elder improved his social position in the Roman nobility by marrying her . She nursed her son herself after his birth and cherished and cared for him, just as the father raised his son very carefully from the beginning. After Licinias death, which dates back to about 155 BC. Is to be set, Cato the Elder married Salonia , the daughter of a freedman , in old age , and had with her the son Marcus Porcius Cato Salonianus .
