history

The prohibition of prostitution in Clark County led to the emergence of this conveniently located 170 miles (274 kilometers) northwest of Las Vegas nearby brothel in the 1960s. In 1967, billionaire Howard Hughes is said to have visited the establishment several times, and the plot of the film Melvin and Howard is related to this fact .

In the 1970s, legal disputes arose between the owner of the Beverly Harrell brothel, who was elected to the Nevada State House in 1974, and the Bureau of Land Management, which attempted to close the public-owned brothel.

The settlement has been uninhabited since 2004, when the Cottontail Ranch closed and the only residents left the village.
