Lida Yusupova

Lidija Muchtarowna Jussupowa (often Lida Jusupowa ; Russian Лидия Мухтаровна Юсупова ; English Lidia Yusupova ; born September 19, 1961 , Grozny , USSR ) is a Russian lawyer and human rights activist . She has received several international awards for her work in Chechnya .

Life

She is the daughter of a Chechen father and a Russian mother. She first studied literature, then law at the Chechen State University in Grozny. Lidija Yusupova became a lecturer at the Faculty of Law and a member of the Chechen Republic Bar College.

Since the second Chechnya war in 2000, she has become increasingly involved in helping the victims. She became chair of the human rights organization Memorial in Chechnya. She often advised and represented victims free of charge and spoke in public about the crimes committed.

Today she is the coordinator of the Memorial Legal Advice Center in Moscow.
