Lidija Gavrilovna Ivanova

Lidija Gawrilowna Ivanova , maiden name Kalinina , ( Russian Лидия Гавриловна Иванова (Калинина) ; born January 27, 1937 in Moscow ), is a Soviet gymnast, two-time Olympic champion, judge and trainer. Already at the age of fourteen she became Master of Sports in 1951 and after the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960 she was Honored Master of Sports of the USSR.

The young Lidija Kalinina already gained gymnastics experience in her early school years. Her first prominent coach was Alexei Ivanovich Alexandrov . He took her to Dynamo Moscow.

She won her first gold medal with the Soviet Union team under her maiden name Kalinina at the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne together with her teammates Polina Astachowa , Lyudmila Jegorova , Larissa Latynina , Tamara Manina and Sofia Muratova , see 1956 Summer Olympics / gymnastics . On the fourteen-day ship return from Australia, she fell in love with the gold medalist with the football team Valentin Kosmitsch Ivanov . The two married three years later in 1959.

Ivanova repeated the gold medal win with the team at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome . In addition to Latynina, Muratowa and Astachowa, the teammates there were Margarita Nikolajewa and Tamara Lyuchina this time .

A year after the Olympic Games in Rome, the son Valentin Ivanov , a future FIFA football referee, was born. In 1964, while training in Germany, a serious knee injury ended Ivanova's active career as a gymnast; in the same year the birth of daughter Olga followed.

Ivanova took part in other Olympic Games as a judge : Munich 1972, Montreal 1976, Moscow 1980, Los Angeles 1984, Seoul 1988, Barcelona 1992; also at world championships in Ljubljana, Amsterdam, Indianapolis, Paris, London, Madrid and various European championships. She was awarded the gold badge of the International Gymnastics Federation, Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique . From 1982 to 1993 she was the state coach of the Soviet Union and coached the national team of Russia. Today she appears as a sports commentator at many events.

Lidija Gawrilowna Ivanova received a number of other national and international awards for her work.
