Ability to deliver
The delivery ( English delivery excellence is in the) economy through the supply chain management to be guaranteed availability , products at any time occurring demand deliver to.
General
The ability to deliver is sometimes viewed as a synonym for the level of service or readiness to deliver , but must be distinguished from both. In American specialist literature, readiness for delivery is usually translated as “service level” or “service rate”.
The ability to deliver is of little or no importance for contract manufacturers or in build-to-order companies. Rather, it is in the production business in , stock-intensive companies with stocks of importance and shows up only when here orders or customer orders arrive and by the decoupling point are compared with the stock.
content
Availability is the probability that an item on offer can actually be delivered. The quantity in demand for a specific product is compared to the stock for this product. Thereafter, delivery is possible if the demand is less than or equal to the available inventory :
- .
If, on the other hand, the requested quantity exceeds the available stock, there is a shortage :
- .
Shortages express lack of delivery, leading to delayed deliveries or even job losses ( English lost sales ). The shortage indicates an existing storage risk and indicates that the safety stock is too low . The service level derived from the above formula serves as a measure of the ability to deliver .
economic aspects
A cost-optimized delivery capability prevents excessive or insufficient stocks. The ability to deliver also depends on the lead time in production and influences customer satisfaction . The reputation of a company is in turn influenced by its ability to deliver, because “not available” or “not in stock” weaken customer loyalty and can lead to the competition. Taking into account the company 's goal of profit maximization , the most profitable articles should have the highest delivery capacity and the profitable orders should be carried out with the best delivery time .
The ability to deliver shows the percentage of deliveries for which the actual delivery time corresponds to the customer's requested date. This measures how many customers could be served on their desired date:
- .
Delivery capability alone is not a meaningful criterion for evaluating suppliers . If all desired delivery dates are met, the delivery capacity is 100%. However, if no promised delivery date is met, the adherence to delivery dates is 0%. This is why delivery service , delivery reliability and delivery quality also play an important role.
The degree of readiness for delivery, on the other hand, measures the number of orders that can be served immediately with the goods in stock, ignoring the customer's requested deadline.
