Surname
Most linguists believe that the Bach name is related to the name of Lithuania (lit. Lietuva ) and perhaps derived from it (from the Lithuanian verb lieti , the root of the Proto-Indo-European * -leyǝ).
Since many names in the Indo-European languages are derived from hydronyms, the scientists looked for water names that are related to the name of Lithuania. Kazys Kuzavinis Lietauka identified Lietauka as a possible candidate and popularized the hypothesis. The original name of the Lietauka is possibly associated with rains, named by Old Believers who were expelled from the Russian Empire and who lived on the banks of the river. Litavka was phonetically changed to Lithuanian Lietauka by local Lithuanians .
