Liia Hänni (born October 4, 1946 in Atla on the island of Saaremaa ) is an Estonian politician and astrophysicist .

Life

Liia Hänni was born as Liia Juulik. From 1954 to 1965 she attended schools in Karala, Lümanda and the island's capital Kingissepp (today Kuressaare again ). From 1965 she studied theoretical physics at the State University of Tartu and passed her exam in 1970. In 1986 she received her PhD in physics and mathematics . From 1970 to 1990 Liia Hänni was employed as a research assistant at the Tartu observatory.

Shortly before Estonia regained its independence, Liina Hänni entered politics. From 1989 to 1991 she was a member of the Tartu County Parliament and in 1991 its chairwoman. From 1990 to 1992 Liia Hänni was a member of the Estonian Parliament and a member of the Constituent Assembly. From 1992 to 1994 she was reform minister in the cabinet of Prime Minister Mart Laar and in 1994/95 in the cabinet of Prime Minister Andres Tarand . The great property reform in Estonia took place in their time. After leaving the cabinet, she was a Social Democrat member of the Estonian Parliament ( Riigikogu ) until 1999 . She is currently employed at the Estonian eGovernance Academy in Tallinn .

Liia Hänni is married to Uku Hänni. The couple has a son.
