Lilian Hofmeister (born October 16, 1950 in Vienna ) is an Austrian lawyer and judge. She has been the Austrian representative in the UN Committee for the Elimination of Discrimination against Women since 2014 and a substitute member of the Constitutional Court since 1998 .

education

Lilian Hofmeister grew up in the Austrian capital Vienna and also attended school there. In 1968 she graduated from the Bundesrealgymnasium XVI and then began studying law at the Law Faculty of the University of Vienna . In 1972, the promotion of Doctor of Law at the University of Vienna . Immediately after completing her academic training, Hofmeister began her judicial training as a trainee judge, which she finally completed in 1976 when she passed the judicial examination.

Professional background

Lilian Hofmeister began her first permanent positions as a judge in 1976 at the District Court of Inner City and at the then District Court for Commercial Matters in Vienna. From 1983 to 1990 she worked for the first time as a judge at the Vienna Commercial Court before she was appointed head of the Vienna Execution Court in 1990. After this court was dissolved at the end of 1996, Hofmeister returned to the Vienna Commercial Court in 1997, where she finally retired on November 1, 2010.

In addition to her full-time judicial work, Lilian Hofmeister was deputy chairwoman of the Federal Commission for Iron and Steel at the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs from 1991 to 1994 and chairwoman of the working group for equal treatment at the Federal Ministry of Justice from 1996 to 2003 . In 2014 Lilian Hofmeister was finally elected as an Austrian member of the UN Committee for the Elimination of Discrimination against Women for the 2015-2018 term.

Since 1998, Lilian Hofmeister has been appointed substitute member of the Constitutional Court on the proposal of the Federal Government .
