Lilienthal was a German folk band that was founded in the 1970s.

history

The band was formed in 1976 in Göttingen from the Irish folk bands Rakish Paddy and Kith and Kin ' . It was discovered in Göttingen by the folk producer Carsten Linde , who soon helped to make the first long-playing record. The band played German folk songs in unusual instrumentation. Lilienthal's role models were the folk bands Planxty and Fairport Convention . They received part of their material from the folk song collections of Wolfgang Steinitz . In addition to German texts, they sang in Middle Low German ( Heio ) and played instrumental pieces, especially modern renaissance dances .

In 1984 Maucksch, Beisert, Steymans and Schobeß recorded the album Colombia paloma herida with the Colombian tenor Jorge Lopez Palacio .

Steymans died on June 11, 2003 and the band broke up.
