Lilijana Istenič

Lilijana Istenič (first name often abbreviated as Lili ; born April 12, 1931 in Ljubljana ) is a Slovenian biologist.

She studied at the University of Ljubljana , where she received her PhD in biology in 1962 . She has worked at the University of Ljubljana since 1956, initially as a researcher and since 1983 as a full professor. Her specialty is functional morphology .

She first researched the properties in the body structure of cartilaginous fish that are relevant for swimming . She was best known for her research on the olm , whose skin pigments , taste buds and ampoule organs she examined.
