Lilium platyphyllum is a kind from the genus of lilies ( Lilium ) in the Oriental section .

description

Lilium platyphyllum is a perennial , herbaceous plant that reaches heights of up to 200 cm. The onions are up to five centimeters in size and have white scales.

From spring onwards, the plant forms a stalk that is slightly red overrun at the base . From August to September it bears up to six, in exceptional cases up to 30 greenish-white, intensely and pleasantly scented flowers with a diameter of 25 to 30 centimeters, speckled with rust-red (or yellow) papillae .

The leaves are broadly lanceolate, up to 22 inches long and four inches wide.

distribution

Lilium platyphyllum is endemic to the Izu Islands in Japan, where it is known as Sakuyuri ( Japanese 作 百合 ).

Systematics

Lilium platyphyllum was previously described as a variety of Lilium auratum . Molecular genetic studies have shown, however, that this apparent variety is only indirectly related to Lilium auratum and is an independent species of Lilium platyphyllum .
