Lilium tianschanicum is a species from the genus of lilies ( Lilium ). Little is known about its taxonomic classification within the genus, it is not in culture.

description

Lilium tianschanicum is an upright-growing species that can reach heights of up to 25 centimeters. The onion is white, about three centimeters in diameter and is composed of numerous, fleshy scales. The leaves are linear, tapering to a point, between 8 and 10 cm long and 2 to 5 mm wide.

It blooms in August with a single nodding bloom , the tepals are white and elongated-lanceolate in shape, around 4.5 centimeters long and 1.2 to 1.5 centimeters wide. They are thickened at the outer end. The stamens are almost as long as the tepals, the anthers are yellow.

Distribution / location

The species is native to the Tianshan high mountains of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China . There it colonizes loamy-gravelly steppe soils.

Botanical history

The species got its name from the high mountains in which it occurs. Lilium tianschanicum was first described in 1977 by Valeri Ivanovich Grubov. Grubov attributed her name to Natalia Ivanova . Section 3, Article 46, Ex. 17 of the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature of 2000 states that there is no indication of Ivanova's authorship of the validating description. Therefore the author citation can be given either as Lilium tianschanicum N.A. Ivanova ex Grubov or as Lilium tianschanicum Grubov , both forms are valid.
