Lilliconus is the name of a genus of snails from the family of cone snails , of the two species from the coasts of Somalia and Madagascar are known.

features

The cone snails of the genus Lilliconus have a small, vortex-shaped to cone-shaped snail shell that reaches 6 to 12 mm in length in adult snails. The high, conical thread takes up an eighth to a quarter of the entire length of the housing and has a straight, stepped outline. The protoconch has few threads. The whorls of the Teleoconch are flat or slightly concave and have a spiral rib below the seam, but have no cords. The shoulder is angled, the outline of the body is straight. The bowl is sculptured with persistent nodules. The inside is usually colored pink or brown. The operculum is small.

In the radula teeth connected to a venom gland , the front section is much shorter than the rear section. They have a well-developed posterior cutting edge and a blunt crease on the shaft, while a spur is absent at the base. The barb and the cutting edge are short. The radula teeth have a distinct serration in one or two rows.

The feeding behavior and prey range of the Lilliconus cone snails are unknown.

distribution and habitat

The dwarf cone snails of the genus Lilliconus are widespread in the western Indian Ocean and are known for being found on the coasts of Somalia and Madagascar .
