The Sorbeoconcha ( "Sauggehäuseschnecken" ) are originally a group of indefinite rank within the snails (Gastropoda), which was first established by Ponder and Lindberg in 1997. It is a subgroup of the Caenogastropoda (and sister group of the Architaenioglossa ); it contains most of the species of Caenogastropoda. In Systema Naturae 2000 the group is assigned a level of order.

characterization

The Sorbeoconcha are characterized by a flow of respiratory water that mainly flows into the mantle cavity. Hence the name Sorbeoconcha (Latin sorbere = to suck in, concha = bowl, housing). In other gastropod groups, the main stream tends to flow out. In addition, Ponder & Lindberg (1997) list ten further, presumably apomorphic, features from the feature range of the protoconch , the radula, the genital apparatus and the nervous system, as well as the shape of the osphradium .

Breakdown

Ponder & Lindberg (1997) do not subdivide the group strictly in the Linneisch-hierarchical sense, but phylogenetically. You only speak of a "clade", ie a branch. Bouchet & Rocroi (2005) do not assign any rank to the group either. It was not until the “Systema Naturae 2000” (based on de Bruyne, 2003?) That the “branches” of the phylogenetic system by Ponder and Lindberg (1997) assigned linneisch-hierarchical ranks. The Caenogastropoda is assigned superordinate rank, the Sorbeoconcha ordinal rank.

However, this classification is based on the phylogenetic analysis of Ponder & Lindberg z. T. not covered. For example, the "subordination" Discopoda is paraphyletic. The Neogastropoda (in the sense of Ponder and Lindberg) are also problematic because they include the Provannidae family and are therefore paraphyletic.
