The Limnopolar Lake is a small lake on the Byers Peninsula of Livingston Island , the second largest of the South Shetland Islands . The round lake with a diameter of about 130 meters is located 875 m southwest of Usnea Plug at about 80 m above sea level and is a maximum of 5 meters deep in the Antarctic midsummer. Its bottom is covered with aquatic moss .
A stream coming from Somero Pond reaches the lake in the southwest and leaves it again in the northeast, where it soon turns west towards Osogovo Bay .
Spanish scientists named it after the limnological research project Limnopolar , as part of which it was studied. The name has already been used in numerous scientific publications, before 2013 the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research was reported (Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research, SCAR).
