Lina Tsaldari

Lina Tsaldari ( Greek Λίνα Τσαλδάρη , * 1887 in Athens ; † October 17, 1981 in New York City ) was a Greek politician ( ERE ) and the first female minister of her country.

Life

Lina Lambrou was the daughter of the historian Spyridon Lambros , who was Greek Prime Minister from October 1916 to February 1917 . In 1919 she married the politician Panagis Tsaldaris (1868-1936), who served as Prime Minister from 1932 to 1935, with a two-month break in the spring of 1933.

Tsaldari campaigned for women's suffrage in Greece . She began her political career as a widow. In 1952 she represented Greece on the UN Committee on the Status of Women and campaigned for equality . As a member of the ERE (National Radical Union) , Tsaldari was a member of parliament from 1956 to 1958. At the same time she served from February 29, 1956 to March 5, 1958 as Minister of Welfare in the second cabinet of Konstantinos Karamanlis .

Then Tsaldari was until 1962 representative of Greece in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe .

Lina Tsaldari died of a stroke on October 17, 1981 .
