Lina von Berlepsch

Karoline "Lina" Baroness von Berlepsch , b. Welebil , (born April 29, 1829 in Munich ; † March 29, 1899 there ) was a German writer .

Life

Welebil was born as the eldest daughter of a lawyer in Munich. She was educated in Nymphenburg and at the Ascher Institute in Munich and finally passed the exam as a language teacher. In 1851 she married the legal consultant Julius Künstle in Tettnang , who died in 1859. The marriage had several children, three of whom - including the later doctor and specialist writer Guido Künstle (1853–1879) - survived. Lina Künstle moved to Stuttgart with her children , where she worked as a writer. She translated and edited mainly American works freely. These have been published in more than 50 journals, but also appeared separately in print. Her works found a wide readership, so the bee researcher Freiherr August von Berlepsch became aware of her publications. Both began a lively correspondence and married in January 1867. August von Berlepsch was paralyzed by a stroke after a year and a half and had to be nursed. He died in 1877.

Von Berlepsch moved to Munich, where two of her children lived and worked. She continued her literary work here. Between 1895 and 1903 J. Habbel published a 60-volume novel library, which consisted of free adaptations of American novels and the short story by von Berlepsch. Among other things, she devoted herself to works by Dora Thorne and May Agnes Fleming . In total, von Berlepsch wrote around 70 novels and over 200 short stories, sketches, etc. a. Among other things, she was a member of the Association internationale d'ecrivains catholiques. In the last years of his life, impaired by a serious eye disease, von Berlepsch died in Munich in 1899.
