Linda Weiss

Linda Marguerite Weiss (born July 11, 1958 ) is an Australian political scientist .

Career, research and teaching

Weiss first studied Italian at the University of Perugia , where she graduated in 1975. Until 1979 she studied political science, sociology and Italian at Griffith University in Brisbane , where she graduated in 1979 with a Bachelor of Arts . In 1984 she completed her Ph.D. -Studied at the London School of Economics and Political Science with a thesis on post-war Italy. From 1987, Weiss was a lecturer at Griffith University. In 1991 she moved to the University of Sydneywhere she rose to Senior Lecturer in 1993 and Associate Professor in 1996 . In 2001 she was appointed full professor at the university . In 2010 she retired . She has worked as a visiting professor at various universities in Europe, the United States and Asia.

The focus of research and teaching at Weiss is particularly on questions of globalization and development aid policy . Among other things, she dealt intensively with the democratization in East Asia after the Second World War and the development towards a market economy, especially since the 1980s. She also analyzed free trade agreements such as AUSFTA , but also US innovation and technology policy.

Weiss has received several awards for her work. She has been a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Social Sciences since 2004 , and is also a Fellow of the Asia Research Institute . In 2007 she received an honorary professorship from Aarhus University .
