Linden Ivimey

Linde Ivimey (* 1965 in Sydney , Australia ) is a contemporary Australian sculptor .

education

Linde Ivimey received her diploma in fine arts in printmaking and sculpture from the Claremont School of Art in Perth . She taught there from 1993 to 1995 and from 1996 to 1998 at the West Australian School of Art.

life and work

In 2013 the artist was diagnosed with breast cancer. She alludes to this in her solo exhibition Brave to the Bone at Martin Browne Contemporary in Sydney . One of her characters ( Bandaid Bunny (a self-portrait) ) looks like it is sitting in a doctor's waiting room. Other of her work also relates to her experiences with depression during the illness. Ivimey cataloged their works as "BC" and "AD" what to do with "before cancer" (before cancer ) and "after diagnosis" (after the diagnosis explained). Ivimey is known for using more macabre materials like bones and skin (mainly from birds, sheep, and fish). She processes the material by welding , cooking , weaving and / or sewing in large and small-format figures.

Exhibitions (selection)

In 2003 Ivimey's first exhibition took place at the Heide Museum of Modern Art in Melbourne . Since that successful debut , Ivimey has exhibited all over the world, including in Sydney (2000) and Berlin (2014). Her collections can be seen in many galleries, including the National Gallery of Victoria, the National Gallery of Australia, and the Hugo Collection.

Awards

She has won prizes such as the SECWA Fremantle Art Award (1991), the Gomboc Sculpture Award (1992) and the Friends of Dorothy Award.
