The house Lindenallee 35 is a listed half-timbered house in the old town of Wernigerode , Harz district , in Saxony-Anhalt . It is a building from the 18th century, formerly used as an orphanage and then as a workhouse, which served as the administrative seat of the Chamber of Prince zu Stolberg-Wernigerode until the beginning of the 1930s and is now used as an administrative building by the Harz National Park .

The building is located at the southeast end of Wernigerode city center, directly below Wernigerode Castle , on Lindenallee , directly opposite the former princely kitchen garden below the castle hill.
Architecture and history
It is a two-story, half-timbered building. The top floor has also been expanded.
The building was built in 1736 on behalf of Count Christian Ernst zu Stolberg-Wernigerode based on the model of the orphanage built by August Hermann Francke in Halle (Saale) .
The first orphanage in Wernigerode emerged from a former school for the poor and was founded in 1714 by the superintendent of the County of Wernigerode , Heinrich Georg Neuss, in a garden house at the Western Gate. After nine years it was moved to a house in the Oberpfarrkirchhof and after another eleven years to a building on Breite Straße . But the spatial conditions in these houses were always too tight, so that Count Christian Ernst zu Stolberg-Wernigerode approved the construction of a new orphanage at the foot of the Schloßberg and ceded the land. On July 18, 1736, the foundation stone was laid for the long half-timbered house with 29 windows in today's Lindenallee.
When the maintenance of the large building became too expensive, its public auction took place in 1875, when it was acquired by Count Otto zu Stolberg-Wernigerode . He had the seat of the count's chamber administration established here. Today the Harz National Park has one of its administrative offices here.
In the local register of monuments , the house is listed as a monument under registration number 094 03291.
