Lindley Murray (tennis player)
Robert Lindley Murray (born November 3, 1892 in San Francisco , California , † January 17, 1970 in Lewiston Heights , New York ) was an American tennis player .
Career
Since he was very busy at work, he only played tennis in his spare time. Nevertheless, he was able to beat the great Bill Tilden in the finals of the US Championships (now US Open ) in Forest Hills in 1918 , after he had won the tournament in 1917. After he failed in the quarterfinals the following year, he did not appear in any major tournament. In 1958 he was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame .
