Lindsay Allan Roy CBE FRSA (born January 19, 1949 ) is a Scottish politician .

Life

Roy worked as a teacher. He served as the principal of Inverkeithing High School for 19 years and moved to Kirkcaldy High School about six months before his election to the British House of Commons . Due to his services in education, Roy was awarded the Order of the British Empire with the rank of Commander in 2004. In January 2015, Roy announced that he had Parkinson's disease .

Political career

Roy joined the Labor Party as early as 1975 . After his party colleague John MacDougall , who represented the constituency of Glenrothes in the House of Commons, died in August 2008, by-elections were required in the constituency. To these the Labor Party put up Roy, who on election day with a vote share of 55.1% clearly prevailed against seven opponents and moved into the British lower house for the first time. In the regular general election 2010 Roy was able to increase his share of the vote to 62.3%. Due to his illness, he announced in spring 2015 that he would no longer run in the following elections. His successor Melanie Ward was unable to assert herself due to the massive increase in votes for the SNP . The mandate went to the SNP candidate Peter Grant .
