The Linha da Póvoa is a railway line on the north coast of Portugal . The line has now been closed and a new connection has been added to the Porto suburban network.

history

The first section of the Linha da Póvoa was opened on October 1, 1875 as the first Portuguese narrow-gauge railway with a gauge of 900 mm and represented a rail connection with a length of 27.7 km between Porto and Póvoa de Varzim . The sections Póvoa de followed later Varzim - Fontaínhas (Ramal de Famalicão) with 15.6 km on August 7, 1878 and finally from Fontaínhas to Vila Nova de Famalicão on the Linha do Minho on June 12, 1881. In addition, there was a branch line from Senhora da Hora to the port of Leixões in 1893 . This section was closed in 1966. The operator was the Caminho de Ferro do Porto á Póvoa de Varzim e Vila Nova de Famalicão (PPF). In 1928 the line was combined with the Guimaraes line in the Companhia dos Caminhos de Ferro do Norte de Portugal (NP) and re-gauged in 1000 mm.
