The line 2 or Sormowsko-Meschtscherskaja line ( Russian Сормовско-Мещерская линия is) the second of two subway lines of the Metro Nischni Novgorod and transmits the symbol "M2". It went into operation in 1993 in Nizhny Novgorod (today Russia ) and runs through the Kanawinski district. A connection to the line 1 ("M1") is given via the transfer station "Moskowskaja" ( Russian Московская ). The line currently consists of four stations and is four kilometers long. The new “Strelka” station is to be developed with the next construction phase.

Depot and vehicles

Line 2 does not have its own depot. Therefore, it is the Proletarskoje - Depot operated. It was opened together with the first leg of Line 1 in 1985. The trains consist of cars from the 81-717 / 714 series (since 1985), 81-717.5 / 714.5 (since 1991) and 81-717.6 / 714.6 (since 2012). There used to be used "D" series cars on Line 2, but they were decommissioned in 1993.

  • November 20, 1985: Moskovskaya station opened as part of Line 1.
  • December 20, 1993: The first section was opened from Moskovskaya Station to Burnakovskaya Station . The route was initially 2.6 kilometers long and had three stations.
  • September 9, 2002: The Burevestnik station was opened. It is the terminus of line 2. This is the only ground level station on the Nizhny Novgorod Metro.

Renaming of stations

  • The Burnakovskaya station had the project names Sportivnaya and Kuibychewskaya .
  • The Burewestnik station was to be called Kalininskaya .

Expansion planning

A new Strelka metro station was opened on June 12, 2018. It is located near the stadium where the 2018 World Cup will be played. Also near the metro station there are several shopping centers ( Metro , Decathlon and Sedmoe Nebo), the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral , the exhibition center and the headland of Nizhny Novgorod . In the future, the Meshchera route of line 2 will continue to the Volga station . The ghost station Jarmarka is located between the Moskovskaya station and the Strelka station.

It is planned to extend the route to the Sormowski district. After the Burewestnik station , the Warja and Sormovskaya stations are being prepared for construction. There are plans to build a Sormovskoye depot that will serve Line 2.
