Line 4 (Metró Budapest)
The M4 of the Metró Budapest is the fourth and youngest line of the underground in the Hungarian capital.
construction
The M4 is a completely newly built metro line that connects the two districts of Buda and Pest through a tunnel under the Danube . Its first section, the 7.4 km long line between the long-distance train stations Kelenföld and Keleti pályaudvar , went into operation on March 28, 2014 after around ten years of construction. It currently comprises a total of ten underground stations, at one of which there are transfer options to the existing lines M3 (underground station Kálvin tér) and M2 ( underground station Keleti pályaudvar ). The M4 is to be expanded at both ends and will ultimately have a length of 12.7 km. The original plans provided that the line in the north should be extended to Bosnyák tér. However, more recent plans from 2014 provide for a tram to Újpalota instead of extending the underground. This would also replace tram lines 44 and 67, which were closed in 1997.
Their color code is green.
business
Fully automatic operation without a human driver is planned for the M4. In a pilot phase, drivers with the option of manual intervention are initially on board the trains. Rolling stock from Alstom is used .
building-costs
The cost of building the M4 is given at 452 billion forints , the equivalent of around 1.47 billion euros. The European Union contributed about 181 billion forints of this.
