Lewica i Demokraci ( LiD for short ) was a political alliance of social democratic, left and liberal parties in Poland . It was formed on the occasion of the local elections in 2006.

The alliance had a left-liberal and social-democratic character and consisted of the amalgamation of the parties Social Democracy of Poland ( SdPL for short ), Partia Demokratyczna ( PD for short ), Sojusz Lewicy Demokratycznej ( SLD for short ) and Unia Pracy ( UP for short ) September 2006 in Warsaw .

Initially, the former President Aleksander Kwaśniewski was the chairman and top candidate . After the election, he withdrew from active politics. His successor as leader of the alliance was the then chairman of the SLD Wojciech Olejniczak , who also took over the office of chairman of the later faction of the alliance in the Sejm .

With the electoral program Polska Przyjazna i Nowoczesna ("Friendly and Modern Poland"), the LiD entered the parliamentary elections in Poland in 2007 and achieved 13.15 percent of the vote, which is compared to the total number of votes of the alliance-forming parties in the 2005 elections (SLD 11 , 31% + SDPL and UP 3.89% + PD 2.45% = 17.65%) meant a loss of 4.5 percentage points. LiD was nevertheless the third strongest force behind PO (41.51%) and PiS (32.11%), but ahead of PSL (8.91%) and the German minority election committee (0.2%).

In 2008 the alliance was dissolved.
