Wojciech Michał Olejniczak (born April 10, 1974 in Łowicz ) is a Polish politician and economist.

Life

The trained engineer and graduate of a horticultural school received his doctorate from the Warsaw University of Natural Sciences on the ecological, economic and social conditions of forest cover in Poland . In 2001 Olejniczak was elected to the Polish parliament, the Sejm , for the first time for the League of Democratic Left (SLD) . At the same time he was Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development in the cabinets of Leszek Miller and Marek Belka from 2003 to 2005 .

As the first politician who had not previously belonged to the Polish United Workers' Party (PZPR), he was elected chairman of the SLD in 2005. Up to and including 2007 he was the Sejm's deputy marshal until the self-dissolution of the Sejm . Although he became parliamentary group leader of his party in 2008, he was surprisingly defeated by Grzegorz Napieralski shortly afterwards in the election of the SLD party leader .

In the 2009 European elections , Olejniczak was elected to the European Parliament . This ended his membership in the Sejm. In 2014 he also resigned from the European Parliament.

Olejniczak is married and has two children.
