Krystyna Maria Łybacka (born February 10, 1946 in Jutrosin , † April 20, 2020 in Poznan ) was a Polish politician and had been a member of the Sejm in the I., II., II., IV., V. and VI . In 1968 she finished her studies at the Mathematical-Physical-Chemical Faculty of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan . She received her PhD in 1976 from the Institute of Mathematics at the Technical University of Poznan . From 1968 to 1991 she was the Technical and Scientific Secretary of the Polish Society of Mathematics.

From 1978 to 1989 she was a member of the Polska Zjednoczona Partia Robotnicza (Polish United Workers' Party - PZPR), and since 1993 she has been a member of the Socjaldemokracja Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej (Social Democracy of the Republic of Poland - SdRP). In 1996 she became the regional chairman of this party in Poznan , and in 1999 she headed the Sojusz Levicy Demokratycznej (Federation of Democratic Left - SLD) in Poznan. In December 1999 became deputy chairwoman of the regional executive committee of the SLD. In 1991, 1993, 1997, 2001 and 2005 she was elected as a member of the Sejm. She worked in various Sejm commissions, including defense and secret services. In the III. In the 5th and 5th electoral term she was deputy chairwoman of the Commission for Education, Science and Youth.

From October 19, 2001 to May 2, 2004, she was Minister of Education in the Leszek Miller government . From 2004 to 2005 she was deputy chairwoman of the SLD parliamentary group.

In the parliamentary elections in 2007 she was elected to the Sejm for the sixth time with 24,405 votes on the list of Lewica i Demokraci (Left and Democrats - LiD) for the constituency of Poznan. In the VI. She sits in the Sejm commissions for education and science as well as for administration and home affairs.

Since April 22, 2008 she was a member of the Lewica parliamentary group .

In the 2014 European elections , Łybacka was elected to the European Parliament .
