Life

Kalinowski studied zootechnics at the Warsaw School of Agriculture and then worked as a cattle breeder . In 1981 he joined the Rural Youth Association and in 1989 the Polish Peasant Party. From 1990 to 1997 he was Vogt (mayor) of Somianka municipality in Powiat Wyszkowski and is now honorary mayor there.

Sejm MP

From 1993 onwards, Kalinowski was elected a member of the Sejm five times (2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th electoral terms) and was an uninterrupted MP for almost sixteen years. Between April 25 and October 31, 1997 he was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture in the Cimoszewicz cabinet . Shortly before the resignation of the cabinet due to the end of the term of office, he was elected to succeed Waldemar Pawlak as party leader of the Polish Peasant Party on October 11, 1997 and remained in this post until March 16, 2004, when he lost the election to Janusz Wojciechowski . He served again as Minister of Agriculture and Deputy Prime Minister in the Miller Cabinet from October 19, 2001 to March 3, 2003.

On October 26, 2005, Kalinowski was elected Deputy Sejmmarschall (President of the Chamber of Deputies). After the early dissolution of parliament and new elections , he was re-elected as deputy Sejm Marshal in 2007. He resigned from his seat on June 10, 2009 after being elected to the European Parliament .

EU parliamentarians

Kalinowski has been an EU member of the Group of the European People's Party (Christian Democrats) since 2009 . As of 2018, he is a member of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development and the delegation in the committees for parliamentary cooperation between the EU and Kazakhstan, EU and Kyrgyzstan, EU-Uzbekistan and EU-Tajikistan, as well as for relations with Turkmenistan and Mongolia . He is also a deputy in the delegation for the Parliamentary Stabilization and Association Committee EU-Serbia .

Kalinowski has run twice for the highest office in the state .

  • 2000 : 5.95% (4th place)
  • 2005 : 1.80% (5th place)

Private

Jarosław Kalinowski is married to the teacher Aleksandra Kalinowska. The couple have three sons and two daughters.
