Life

Janusz Wojciechowski graduated from the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Łódź in 1977 . From 1977 to 1980 he worked as an assessor at the State Prosecutor's Office in Skierniewice and from 1980 to 1993 as a judge. Until 1985 he also worked at the District Court in Rawa Mazowiecka and the District Court in Skierniewice, from 1985 to 1990 at the Provincial Court in Skierniewice and from 1990 to 1993 at the Court of Appeal in Warsaw and from 1991 to 1993 judge at the State Court of Poland. From 1990 to 1993 he was a member of the National Council of Justice. From 1995 to 2001 he was President of the Supreme Audit Office in Poland.

He is the author or co-author of comments on the penal code and criminal offenses, as well as scientific and journalistic articles in the field of law and legal sociology.

He is Catholic, married and has two sons. He is the brother of Grzegorz Wojciechowski .

politics

In 1984 he joined the Zjednoczone Stronnictwo Ludowe (ZSL) party . From 1993 to 1995 he was a member of the Sejm . From 1994 to 1995 he was State Secretary in the Council of Ministers. In 1995 he was elected President of the Supreme Court of Auditors by Sojusz Lewicy Demokratycznej (SLD) and Polskie Stronnictwo Ludowe (PSL), a position he held until 2001. From 2001 to 2004 he was deputy spokesman for the Sejm in the 4th electoral term and from 2004 to 2005 he was President of the Polish People's Party (PSL).

From 2004 to 2014 Wojciechowski was a member of different parties in the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th electoral periods in the European Parliament , most recently for the PiS. He resigned in 2016 after being appointed to the European Court of Auditors . He is EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development in the von der Leyen Commission .
