Elisa Ferreira (born October 17, 1955 in Porto ) is a Portuguese politician of the Partido Socialista . She has been MEP since 2004 and EU Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms since December 2019 .

Life

Ferreira studied economics at the University of Porto . She has been teaching at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Porto since 1977. From 1995 to 1999 she was Minister for the Environment in Portugal in the Guterres I cabinet and from 1999 to 2002 she was Minister for Planning in the Guterres II cabinet . From 2002 to 2004 she was a member of the Assembleia da República . Ferreira has been a member of the European Parliament since 2004 . In the Commission von der Leyen is since 1 December 2019 EU Commissioner for cohesion and reforms .
