Linton Garner

Linton Garner (* 25. March 1915 in Greensboro, North Carolina ; † 6. March 2003 in Vancouver ) was a jazz - pianist and arranger index swing and bebop .

Linton Garner is the older brother of Erroll Garner . He played the trumpet from 1924 and was active in local orchestras, where he played with Art Blakey and Billy Eckstine , among others . However, in 1935 he switched to the piano, which he learned to play at an early age. As a pianist and arranger he worked for Billy Eckstine in 1946/47 and accompanied the singer Timmie Rogers from 1947 to 1955. He then had engagements as a solo pianist. He also worked as an arranger for Dizzy Gillespie ( Minor Walk 1947 and Duff Capers 1948). As a pianist, he also took part in a session in October 1946 with the singer Earl Coleman , which also included the young Miles Davis , and was released on his album "Boppin 'the Blues". Garner also worked with Babs Gonzales , Fats Navarro, and Allen Eager .

In 1974 he moved to Vancouver, where he sang and played the piano in a restaurant in the Kitsilano neighborhood.
