The Lion Sound (English for Löwensund ) is a strait in the Palmer Archipelago off the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula . It runs between Anvers Island in the west and Lion Island in the east.
Participants in the Belgica expedition (1897–1899) led by the Belgian polar explorer Adrien de Gerlache de Gomery discovered this sea route. Its name, which is derived from that of Lion Island, appears for the first time on a map based on surveys by scientists from the British Discovery Investigations in 1927.
