Lionginas Sepetys

Lionginas Šepetys (born November 23, 1927 in Kazliškiai , Ukmergė district , † December 9, 2017 in Vilnius ) was a Soviet politician . He was a member of the Supreme Soviet as well as a minister in the Lithuanian SSR and a member of parliament ( Seimas ).

Life

After graduating from high school in Ukmergė , Šepetys graduated from the Polytechnic Institute in Kaunas (KPI) in 1953 and became a civil engineer . From 1953 to 1957 he was an assistant and university professor at KPI. From 1960 to 1963 he studied as an aspirant at the Academy of Social Sciences in Moscow . In 1963 he received his doctorate as an art historian and habilitated in philosophy in 1987 . From 1963 to 1968 he worked at the Vilnius Art Academy , where he taught as a lecturer from 1964 . From 1967 to 1976 he was Minister of Culture of the Lithuanian SSR , from 1984 Lithuanian Member of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR , from 1967 Deputy and from 1981 Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the Lithuanian SSR. From 1990 to 1992 he was a member of the Seimas . From 1995 to 1997 he worked as a press spokesman for the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Lithuania .

Šepetys was married and had two children.
