The Lippe goose is the only goose breed documented in Westphalia since 1860 that was bred and used on farms in the grassland region of the lip lowlands.

From the mid-1950s, the inventory decreased u. a. due to cheap imports from abroad.

In 1985 the breed was rediscovered by the Westphalian Open Air Museum in Detmold .

In 1989, it was recognized as an independent breed by the Association of German Poultry Breeders (BDRG).

In 1999, Lippegans owners and breeders joined forces to found the Stammbuch Lippegans eV association. The association is based in Erwitte , in the center of the original breeding area . 42 members currently hold 30 breeding pairs in 23 stocks.

description

The Lippe goose is a down-to-earth grazing goose weighing between 5.5 and 7 kg. The plumage is pure white or piebald. The Lippe goose is considered to be a particularly marchable, easily agile, medium-weight breed that can be assigned to the group of land geese.

If there is sufficient grazing space, Lippe geese can be kept as grazing animals without additional feeding. The animals are able to march to the pasture without exertion even over long distances. The clutches contain up to 20 eggs, of which approx. 12 eggs can be hatched in natural brood.
