The Lippische Tageszeitung (also spelled Lippische Tages-Zeitung ) was a daily newspaper that appeared from 1896 to 1938 in Detmold in the Principality of Lippe (later: Free State of Lippe ). It saw itself as a counterpoint to the Lippische Landes-Zeitung and increasingly represented nationalist positions.

history

The foundation of the newspaper was a consequence of the Lippische inheritance dispute : The Lippische Landes-Zeitung represented the positions of the Lippe-Biesterfeld line and, despite a takeover offer, refused to take sides with the Bückeburg line Schaumburg-Lippe . Therefore, on April 28, 1896, the Detmold publishing house, Fr. Preuss, founded the Lippische Tages-Zeitung, which, like its direct competition, positioned itself as a General-Anzeiger . The publishing and editorial manager was the Frankfurt journalist Willy Bruder , who came to Detmold around this time. From 1917 on, Bruder became involved in the German Fatherland Party in Lippe . He sold the publishing house on April 2, 1920 to the Hugenberg Group . The Lippische Tages-Zeitung was thus a party organ of the DNVP and, from 1919, positioned itself against the SPD politician Heinrich Drake in particular . To a large extent, she sympathized with the NSDAP , but occasionally also criticized it.

After the Reichstag election in March 1933 and the synchronization of the press, not only did the Landes-Zeitung change its reporting, but from the beginning of June 1933 the Tages-Zeitung became increasingly the target of attacks by the NSDAP party newspaper Lippischer Kurier . This was an attempt to eliminate former allies. With Hugenberg's resignation from the DNVP leadership on June 26, 1933, the Tages-Zeitung lost its status as a party organ.

After the Lippische Landes-Zeitung had to cease operations in 1936 (until 1949), the Lippische Tages-Zeitung was hit in 1938 and the Lippische Post of the FL Wagener printing company in 1939 . The Lippische Staatszeitung remained the only Lippische daily newspaper until the end of the war.

Edition

In 1917 the newspaper had a circulation of around 12,000 copies, which fell to 7,400 copies in the years up to 1927 (no circulation figures were published for later years). The newspaper was thus roughly on par with Felix Fechenbach's Volksblatt , above the circulation levels of the Lippische Post (1930: 3,600 copies) and the Lippischer Kurier (1930: 3,500 copies), but also well below the Lippische Landes-Zeitung (1930: 17,000 copies) ).
