Dalbello (* 1958 in Toronto , Ontario , Canada ; actually Lisa Dal Bello ; also Lisa Dalbello ) is a Canadian musician. In the late 1970s she released three pop albums as Lisa Dal Bello . In 1984 she reappeared, this time as an edgier alternative rock musician.
Life
Her great musical talent was shown early on in the family circle. At the age of thirteen she toured a revue and won various amateur competitions. After appearing on television and in commercials, she was able to sign a contract with the record company MCA at the age of 19 . For their disco-pop - debut album Lisa Dal Bello she won in 1978 a Juno Award as Most Promising Female Vocalist .
Unsatisfied with the image the record company wanted to give her, she interrupted her music career after her third album Drastic Measures in 1981 to study at York University and devote herself to poetry , one of her other preferences besides music. Guitarist Mick Ronson saw a television documentary on the Canadian broadcaster CBC about Dalbello during this time and convinced her to record another album, which was released in 1984 on Capitol Records .
This album, whomanfoursays (a homonym for "human forces"), was produced jointly by Dalbello and Ronson. It was also her first album, which was released under the name Dalbello and marked her transformation from disco queen to edgy rock musician. This transformation worked: The album was even more successful in the Canadian pop charts than their pop albums had been. The hits Gonna Get Close to You and Animal can be found on this album. In addition to the music, the lyrics were also convincing. Dalbello has been described as Canada's more varied answer to Kate Bush .
Dalbello and Ronson planned to record a second album. Ronson withdrew because of ongoing controversy with Dalbello's record company. Dalbello went on alone and released the album She in 1987 (in the USA only 1989). The couplings Tango and Black on Black were their biggest hits. At that time, in 1987, she toured with Marillion in their opening act for the Clutching-at-Straws tour. After that, Dalbello left her record company and began working again with Ronson in 1991, who died of cancer in 1993. Dalbello withdrew from the music scene, but continued to write songs for others, including Julian Lennon . In 1996 she released the album Whore recorded in Toronto in collaboration with her brother Stefano on EMI , her last album to date.
Dalbello has also written songs for other musicians, including Patti LaBelle , Helix , Julie Masse and Nena . Queensrÿche recorded a cover version of Gonna Get Close to You , Heart one each of Black on Black and Wait for an Answer . Dalbello has also recorded radio and TV jingles and voiced characters from the animated series Sailor Moon . In 2001 she sang a Ford Focus commercial , With All Your Heart (Faith in You) . In 2015 her Rockpalast appearance from 1985 was released on CD and DVD.
