Lisa Kahn

Lisa Kahn (born Liselott Margarete Kupfer on July 15, 1927 in Berlin-Tempelhof , died on July 3, 2013 in Houston ) was a German-American German scholar and poet .

Life

Kahn was born in Berlin and went to school in Leipzig. She studied psychology, German and English in Heidelberg and, after receiving a Fulbright scholarship, at the University of Washington in Seattle . From 1968 she taught German at Texas Southern University in Houston. She published poetry in both German and English. She was a member of three PEN associations: the American, Austrian and international in London. Her first marriage was to the German scholar and poet Robert Kahn , who committed suicide in 1970. Many of Kahn's poems from this period are dedicated to the grief and lament over this loss. Her second marriage was to Herbert Finkelstein. She converted from the Protestant to the Jewish faith.
