Lisa Lomas

Lisa Lomas , b. Bellinger (born March 9, 1967 in Dunstable ) is an English table tennis player . She was one of the best players in England in the 1980s and 1990s and became vice European champion in 1992.

Career

The defender Lomas achieved her first international success at the European Youth Championships in Malmö in 1983, when she reached the semi-finals in singles and won the title in doubles with J. Parker. At the National English Championships she won five times in singles (1985, 1989, 1992, 1996, 1998) and nine times in doubles (1985 and 1987 with her sister Jackie Bellinger, from 1988 to 1992 with Fiona Elliott, in 1994 with Fiona Mommessin and in 1998 with Andrea Holt).

From 1983 to 1997 she took part in world championships eight times without coming close to medal ranks. She was more successful at European championships . If she reached the individual semi-finals in 1986 , she made it to the final in 1992 , which she lost to the Dutch Bettine Vriesekoop .

In 1992 and 1996 she qualified for participation in the Olympic Games , where she was eliminated from the group games in both singles and doubles.

In the 1990s, Lomas played for the Swedish club Varberg BTK. In 1996 she joined the German Bundesliga club FC Langweid . With its women's team, she won the European Champion Clubs' Cup in 1997 and the German championship in 1999. In 1999 she left FC Langweid and ended her active career.

Oddities

On February 7, 1993 in Ipswich, Lisa Lomas and her sister Jackie Bellinger set a new record in fast play: They made 173 ball contacts within one minute, almost three ball contacts per second.

Private

In 1986 Lisa Bellinger married the professional football goalkeeper from Chesham Andy Lomas. Her sister Jackie Bellinger is also an England international.
