Lisa McPherson (born February 10, 1959 in the USA , † December 5, 1995 ) was an American member of Scientology . She starved and died of thirst while in the care of the Flag Service Organization (FSO), a branch of the Scientology organization.

Procedure

Due to the circumstances of death, the Scientology organization was charged with failure to provide assistance and practice of the medical profession without certification .

The criminal case against the Scientology department there was discontinued on June 12, 2000, the official cause of death was changed on June 13, 2000 from "undetermined" to "accident".

A civil procedure initiated by McPherson's family, was completed on 28 May 2004 with a confidential settlement.

On June 22, 2009, Mark Rathbun , a former Scientology member, admitted that he had directed the destruction of documents relating to the case.

On November 17, 2012, he also announced that Scientology was raising $ 30 million to influence judges in Florida over criminal and civil claims. The coroner's attorney, Jeffrey Goodis, had been bribed with Super Bowl tickets and other gifts. Goodis denied the allegations.

Scientology introduced a Lisa McPherson contract clause that releases Scientology from all responsibility for such cases.

On November 18, 1995, Lisa McPherson was involved in a minor car accident . She was not injured, but was confused and tore her clothes off. She was admitted to a hospital and was to be transferred from there to a psychiatric clinic for examination . However, this was prevented by the appearance of two Scientology members who identified McPherson as a Scientologist and claimed that, as such, she wanted nothing to do with psychiatry , but only needed "rest and relaxation".

Little is known about the further events between November 18, 1995 and December 5, 1995. What is certain is that McPherson was taken to a house belonging to the Scientology organization and was not given any drinking water there for days. The forensic investigation showed that a arisings by the heavy loss of water and bed rest applies clots as cause of death .

On December 5, 1995, Lisa McPherson's body in disrepair was taken by Scientology members to New Port Richey Hospital in north Clearwater , Florida.

The Lisa McPherson case made the public aware of the Scientology organization. She was heavily criticized from many quarters, but the trials were suspended without convictions following an unpublished agreement between the two parties .
