Liselotte Eckerl-Riesch (* December 8, 1921 ; † January 2, 2012 ; née Riesch ) was a German volunteer . She is considered a "pioneer of dyslexia therapy " .

Life

Liselotte Eckerl-Riesch, a mother who was affected herself, has been actively looking for ways to support children with dyslexia since the early 1970s , as there was no professional help available at that time. She contacted experts and turned to teachers. Eckerl-Riesch then founded a parents' initiative in Munich in 1972 and in 1974 the non-profit association Arbeitskreis Legasthenie Bayern e. V. , of which she was first chairperson for many years. In 1977 she founded the private child and youth welfare facility Kinderhaus München , which she has managed for many years.

Thanks to Eckerl-Riesch's involvement in the Bavarian Dyslexia Working Group , help for schoolchildren with reading / spelling disorders quickly became known and the dyslexia therapy initiated and conceived by the working group with her significant involvement was soon increasingly being offered outside of Munich. In 1980 she founded the regional association for dyslexia and dyscalculia. V. Bayern , the member of the Bundesverband dyslexia e. V. (today the Federal Association of Dyslexia and Dyscalculia ). The Dyslexia Working Group in Bavaria expanded its offers in 1995 to include dyscalculia therapy and in 2006 to include learning therapy . At present (2012) the working group operates around 150 therapy centers throughout Bavaria.

Liselotte Eckerl-Riesch was married and had two children. She died in early 2012 at the age of 90.

Children's homes

The aim of the foundation of the private child and youth welfare organization Kinderhaus München , which she initiated, was to offer children and young people with partial performance disorders such as dyslexia or dyscalculia comprehensive educational and therapeutic assistance. In cooperation with the government and the district of Upper Bavaria , a special educational and therapeutic facility for the care of children and adolescents with severe partial performance disorders was designed and implemented under their leadership. Since then, five children's houses with over 200 inpatient care places in curative educational-therapeutic day groups as well as three “mini houses” for the day care of children of preschool age have been built in the Munich city area .

Honors

On September 26, 1989, she was awarded the Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for her outstanding social commitment .
