Lisbon ripper

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Lisbon Ripper (Portuguese: Estripador de Lisboa ) is a suspected serial killer who has been unidentified to this day and who is attributed to at least three feminicides in Lisbon between 1992 and 1993 . Other similar murders took place in Belgium , the Czech Republic , the Netherlands and Denmark , bringing the number of victims of this perpetrator to seven.

Victim

The victims were always young drug-addicted prostitutes whom the perpetrator strangled and then gutted with a piece of glass. None of the victims were raped.

  • The first victim is 22-year-old Maria Valentina, who was found on July 31, 1992 in Póvoa de Santo Adrião . She was strangled and gutted, and internal organs were removed.
  • The second victim was 24-year-old Maria Fernanda, she was found on January 27, 1993 in Entrecampos . Her internal organs were also removed.
  • The third victim was the 27-year-old Maria João, she was found on March 15, 1993 near the place where the first victim was found; internal organs were also removed from her.

suspicious

José Pedro Guedes was suspected to be the culprit in 2011 when his son Joel stated for a reality show that he knew the Lisbon ripper. Prior to his arrest, José Pedro Guedes shared details of the murders with Sol magazine . However, Guedes could not be held responsible for the acts, as they are statute-barred after 15 years under Portuguese law.

Guedes was arrested in late 2011 and charged with a 2000 Aveiro murder, but acquitted in January 2013 and released after 13 months in prison.

Connections with other cases

Four similar murders were committed in the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Denmark and Belgium, and it was vaguely suspected that the Lisbon ripper was identical to a murderer in New Bedford, Massachusetts , known as the New Bedford Highway Killer .
