Póvoa de Santo Adrião is a municipality (freguesia) in the Portuguese district of Odivelas in the Lisbon district . It covers an area of 1.24 km² and has 13,047 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).
location
Póvoa de Santo Adrião is located on the northern outskirts of Lisbon in the immediate vicinity of the northern CRIL motorway bypass . Neighboring municipalities are Odivelas and Olival Basto (both Odivelas district) and Frielas and Santo António dos Cavaleiros (both Loures district).
The municipality also includes the Casal do Privilégio, Bairro do Barruncho and others.
history
The community was founded in the middle of the 17th century as Póvoa de Loures . During the flood disaster of 1967, the place was one of the hardest hit. On August 23, 1986 the place was raised to Vila (small town) . As part of an administrative reform, it moved from Loures County to the newly established Odivelas County in November 1998 and is the oldest municipality there.
