The Latin Dioecesis Bosniensis was founded in the 11th century over the valley of the Vrbas (Vrhbosna). In 1246 Bishop Ponsa moved his seat to Đakovo , ( Croatia ). The bishops resided alternately in Vrhbosna and Đakovo; In 1489, with the invasion of the Ottomans, the bishopric was finally moved to Đakovo in Croatia.
