List of honorary citizens of the city of Oldenburg (Oldb)
The city of Oldenburg (Oldenburg) has granted the following people honorary citizenship:
- 1928: Helene Lange (born April 9, 1848 in Oldenburg (Oldb); † May 13, 1930 in Berlin ), education politician ( DDP ) and women's rights activist
- 1961: Bernhard Winter (born March 14, 1871 in Neuenbrok , † August 6, 1964 in Oldenburg), painter
- 1963: Karl Jaspers (born February 23, 1883 in Oldenburg (Oldb); † February 26, 1969 in Basel ), philosopher, psychiatrist and political writer; Parents house at Moltkestrasse 19, bust on Cäcilienplatz
- 1990: Leo Trepp (* 1913 in Mainz; † September 2, 2010), German-American rabbi and theology professor
- 1992: Horst Janssen (born November 14, 1929 in Hamburg ; † August 31, 1995 in Hamburg), draftsman and graphic artist
The honorary citizenship rights were withdrawn from the following persons:
- In 1937 Adolf Hitler (* April 20, 1889 in Braunau am Inn ; † April 30, 1945 in Berlin) and Carl Röver (* February 12, 1889 in Lemwerder , Stedingen , † May 15, 1942 in Berlin) received honorary citizenship. These were withdrawn again in 1948 by the city council.
- On September 30, 2015, the city council also withdrew Paul von Hindenburg (* October 2, 1847 in Posen ; † August 2, 1934 at Gut Neudeck , West Prussia , Oldenburg honorary citizen since 1917) and August Hinrichs (* 18 May 2015) because of their connection to Nazi ideology April 1879 in Oldenburg (Oldb), † June 20, 1956 in Huntlosen , Oldenburg honorary citizen since 1944) the honorary citizenship. This decision was controversial within the city council.
