The honorary citizenship is the highest honor that the city Schrobenhausen awarded to. It also awards a citizen medal.

Since 1898 the following people have been made honorary citizens. The honorary citizenships bestowed on Paul von Hindenburg, Adolf Hitler, Fritz Reinhardt, Adolf Wagner, Hans Dauser and Georg Luber during the time of National Socialism were revoked on August 1, 1946 by a resolution of the city council.

The honorary citizens of the city of Schrobenhausen

  1. Franz von Lenbach (born December 13, 1836 in Schrobenhausen; † May 6, 1904 in Munich)
    Painter
    Awarded on March 12, 1898
    Lenbach was made an honorary citizen by a unanimous decision of the magistrate and the parishioners in joyful appreciation of his loyal attachment to his hometown and in grateful recognition for the generous donation of his royal highness the Prince Regent Luitpold of Bavaria.
  2. Georg Leinfelder (born April 20, 1836 in Haunstetten, † July 23, 1916 in Schrobenhausen)

    Leinfelder took over his father's paper mill in 1859 and added a cellulose factory to it. He was a founding member of the Association of Paper and Wood Manufacturers. With well-known donations, he supported outpatient nursing, the establishment of the orphanage, the construction of the St. Georg retirement home, a gym, a shooting home and the Rotkreuzheim. For more than 40 years he served as a municipal representative, councilor, mayor and board member of the municipal college of the city's municipal bodies. On the occasion of his 70th birthday, he was given honorary citizenship in grateful recognition of his services to the city.
  3. Theobald von Fuchs (born June 30, 1852 in Schrobenhausen; † February 1, 1943 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen)

    After positions as legally qualified mayors of Forchheim (1879) and Bad Kissingen (1883–1917), Fuchs was first president of the Chamber of Deputies of the Bavarian State Parliament from 1916 to 1918, to which he himself had been a member since 1893.
  4. Michael Thalhofer (born June 29, 1855 in Aichach; † December 31, 1929 in Schrobenhausen)

    Thalhofer celebrated his first year in 1877 and then took over pastoral work in the parish of St. Amton and Sebastian in Schrobenhausen. The founding of the historical association and the city museum goes back to him. Numerous publications on local history come from him. In 1915 he was appointed chamberlain for the Schrobenhausen chapter. On the occasion of his 50th jubilee as a priest, he was made an honorary citizen by a city council resolution.

  5. Monsignor Albert Alberstötter (born October 1, 1859 in Baindlkirch ; † March 26, 1952 in Schrobenhausen)

    Awarded on September 23, 1949
    Alberstötter worked as the parish priest of Schrobenhausen from March 1, 1905. He had the parish church and the suburban church of St. Salvator restored. In addition, he took care of outpatient nursing care, the expansion of the orphanage, brought the diaspora association into being and served as royal district school inspector for 14 years. From the First World War until his death he was the administrator of the St. Georg retirement home. On the occasion of his 90th birthday, he was made an honorary citizen in view of his outstanding services, mainly for the establishment and further expansion of the old people's home and the orphanage, and as a generous sponsor of poor welfare institutions.
  6. Lolo von Lenbach (born April 18, 1861 in Winkel, † May 27, 1941 in Munich)

    Lenbach was the widow of the painter Franz von Lenbach, who died in 1904. Forty years after her husband, she was made an honorary citizen in joyful recognition of her services to a permanent lively connection between the city's greatest son and Schrobenhausen, primarily through the generous foundation of the Lenbach Museum in the master’s birthplace.
  7. Mathilde Hitl (* 1871 in Schrobenhausen; September 28, 1966 in Schrobenhausen)

    Awarded on April 16, 1958
    Hitl was the daughter of the paper manufacturer Georg Leinfelder and owner of the Mint Poellath. She was a co-founder of the historical association of the city and supported the establishment of the city museum. In 1943 she donated an extensive collection of medals and devotional objects to the city. In recognition of her great services through her lively and valuable work in Caritas, in the Red Cross, in setting up the city museum and in the historical association, she was also made an honorary citizen 52 years after her father.
  8. Konrad Kuhn (born December 1, 1891 in Ichenhausen: † 1977)

    Kuhn had been the parish priest in Schrobenhausen since 1941. After the end of World War II, he made land available to the parish for housing. He made great contributions to the St. Georg retirement home, as well as the renovation of the parish church of St. Jacob, the Church of Our Lady and the Church of Salvator.
  9. Fritz Stocker (* 1894; † 1967)

    Stocker was the city's first mayor from 1945 to 1967. A few days before his death, the city council granted him honorary citizenship in view of his commitment to the development of the city and, in particular, to the integration of the expellees after the end of the war until his death.
  10. Walter Mixa (born April 25, 1941 in Königshütte)
    Bishop of Eichstätt (1996-2005) and of Augsburg (2005-2010)
    Awarded in 1996
    Mixa worked as pastor of Schrobenhausen from 1975 to 1996 before his appointment as bishop. During this time he built the parish center with parish library and residential complex for the needy and renovated a. a. the parish church and the rectory.
  11. Karlheinz Bauer (born April 24, 1928 in Schrobenhausen)

    Awarded in 1998
    The government architect and graduate engineer, who holds a doctorate and has received several honorary doctorates. Karlheinz Bauer is the inventor of the BAUER anchor. From 1956 he developed the family business BAUER Spezialtiefbau into an international group. Bauer received the honor not only with regard to the creation of more than 1000 jobs in Schrobenhausen, but especially also because of the support of the church and city, including many associations, through generous donations.
