List of general superintendents of Saxony-Weissenfels
In the secondary school principality of Saxony-Weißenfels , which existed from 1656/57 to 1746 - as in other Protestant territories of this time - general superintendents held office as the supreme clergy of the Protestant church system. Together with the consistory appointed by the prince , to which they belonged by office, they exercised the ecclesiastical supervision. Her office was also associated with that of the court preacher . As a title they often had that of a general superintendent of the Principality of Querfurt, because the "Principality of Saxony-Querfurt" was the part of the country through which the Duchy of Saxony-Weißenfels had a seat and vote in the district council of the Upper Saxon Empire . But they were responsible for the entire duchy and had their official residence at the duke's residence, ie until 1680 in the new residence in Halle an der Saale , then in Neu-Augustusburg castle in Weißenfels.
