Michael Heinrich Reinhard (also: Reinhardt, Reinhart ; born October 18, 1676 in Hildburghausen ; † January 1, 1732 in Weißenfels ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran theologian.

Life

Michael Heinrich was a son of the superintendent and consistorial assistant Johann Reinhard. First receiving a school education in his hometown, Reinhard transferred to the Latin School Torgau in 1692 . After graduation, he began to study theology at the University of Wittenberg on April 14, 1694 . He completed his initial philosophical studies with Gottlieb Wernsdorf , Valentin Ernst Löscher , Theodor Dassov , Michael Strauch , Johann Baptist Röschel , Georg Friedrich Schröer , Johann Christoph Wichmannshausen and Christian Vater . His theological education was mainly shaped by Johann Deutschmann , Caspar Löscher , Philipp Ludwig Hanneken and Johann Georg Neumann . Guided in this way, Reinhard acquired the academic degree of a master's degree in philosophy on April 28, 1696. After brief theological training with Johann Benedict Carpzov at the University of Leipzig , Reinhard became an adjunct in the philosophical faculty of the Wittenberg University in 1698.

The following year he accepted a position as vice-principal at the Meissen city school . In the following year, 1700, he switched to the school in Hildburghausen as principal. In 1713 he took over the office of court preacher to the Saxon Electress Christiane Eberhardine and a deacon in Pretzsch , where he remained until 1721. Reinhard then followed his appointment as superintendent and consistorial assessor in Sondershausen . Due to this position, he received his degree in theology at the Wittenberg University in February 1721 and a doctorate in theology on March 4, 1721. As before in Hildburghausen, he founded an orphanage in Sondershausen. 1730 joined Reinhard as court preacher of Duke Christian of Saxe-Weissenfels , as Churches and General Superintendent of the Principality Querfurt to Weissenfels .

In literary terms he made a name for himself because he continued the Innocent News of old and new theological matters that Valentin Ernst Löscher had begun in Dresden in 1701 . From 1720 this appeared under the name Continued Collection of Old and New Theological Matters (until 1731). Reinhard wrote numerous articles for both series of publications. In addition, he brought out other publications, especially his treatises on Hebrew antiquities were in the foreground. His contemporaries held him in high regard for his social commitment in his communities.

  2. According to the university statutes of the time, one could only be appointed as adjunct of the philosophical faculty if one had previously obtained a habilitation as a Magister legens. Both certificates are missing from the registers of the University of Wittenberg. In view of the Wittenberg disputations, such an appointment is not excluded. Evidence in Leipzig cannot be provided either. Accordingly, he only attended the lectures there as a guest.
