List of the Jewish Bishops of Worms
The list of the Jewish bishops of Worms contains the board members of the administration of the political Jewish community of Worms from the Middle Ages to the end of the state independence of the imperial city of Worms at the end of the 18th century.
context
At the head of the community was a council of 12 members ("Parnassim") who co-opted . He elected the community leader, "the jew bishop of Wormß" ( Latin : "episcopus iudeorum") from among his ranks. The election had to be confirmed by the (Christian) bishop of Worms as city lord and sworn in the new incumbent, which usually happened in the bishop's court . The Judenrat and the office of Jewish bishop existed until the imperial city of Worms passed to France as a result of the French Revolution at the end of the 18th century.
