16. – 19. Century One of the most beautiful manor castles of the Renaissance period in Saxony, characteristic economic buildings of the 19th century, importance in terms of local history, cultural history, architectural history, artistic as well as landscape design and urban development (characterizing the townscape).

Gutsgarten and Gutspark:

  • Garden parts:
    • Gutsgarten: regularly laid out small garden west of the castle, which is enclosed by the now dry moat
    • Castle courtyard: to the east of the castle, fortified courtyard with formerly six linden trees
    • Manor park: landscaped small complex east of the castle courtyard.
  • History:
    • 17th century evidence of a pleasure house on the site of today's Nixstein
    • 1831 Constitutional linden tree is planted
    • Around 1880 the estate park was laid out (see the equidistant maps from 1876, in which the park is not yet shown, and from 1889 (Leipzig City Archives), in which the paths in the park are recorded)
    • 1960s / 1970s backfilling of the eastern moat
  • Structural assets:
    • Enclosure: Quarry stone walls on the northern, southern and western boundaries of the estate, the western garden and the eastern castle courtyard are each surrounded by a separate quarry stone wall, the moat is partially fortified by quarry stone walls, east of the castle access gate with double-leaf ornamental grille and massive gate pillars made of plastered brickwork with crowns made of porphyry
    • Path system: regular path system with crossroads and water-bound ceiling in the garden to the west of the castle, eastern castle courtyard paved with porphyry paving and large-format porphyry slabs, scenic paths in the estate park, path system simplified
    • Horticulture: the above-mentioned pleasure house on the Nixstein has not been preserved, only a fortified rock plateau is still present, the western garden is accessed from the west and north by a bridge over the moat
    • Garden equipment: two tables and a porphyry tufa bench in the western garden
    • Water elements: fountain in the central crossroads of the western garden, currently planted
  • Vegetation:
    • Valuable old trees include the constitutional linden ( Tilia spec. - Hochstubben), two of the originally six previously cut summer linden ( Tilia platyphyllos ) in the courtyard, a yellow-flowered horse chestnut ( Aesculus flava ), red oak ( Quercus rubra ), pedunculate oak ( Quercus) robur ), a yew tree ( Taxus baccata ) in the western garden
  • Other protected assets:
    • Ground relief: the moat, which is now dry, encloses the western garden, the eastern area has been filled in, the Nixstein is located on a raised rock plateau above the hollow
    • Visual relationships: vantage point on the Nixstein, the view over the Mulde is currently disturbed by overgrown trees, different visual relationships into the Mulde landscape
